This is madness!

300: Film Review
The 'Man' Movie of the New Millennium

There is a long list of movies to be watched with your mates whilst eating a large meat feast pizza , screaming every famous line in the movie. To add to a list that includes “I’ll be back” and “You talking to me?” comes a few new famous lines, such as “Tonight, we dine in hell”. After watching 300, you will certainly get the urge to reply “Madness? THIS IS SPARTA!” when someone next says “This is madness!” to you. Although you might best be advised not to follow up with a kick to the chest as they fall into a bottomless pit. Too much? Sorry, this movie has got to me...

300 was adapted, (like Sin City) from a Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name. The novel is based (loosely) on the ancient Egyptian Battle of Thermopylae, where 300 Spartan warriors (along with the help of a few thousand Arcadians), made their last stand against one million Persian soldiers. The movie has all the elements evident in action films, such as the slow motion fighting, the scantily-clad women, and the six packs of all the Spartan warriors. The only things missing are huge explosions and car chases, but that would feel slightly out of place in Ancient Greece.

300 combines the sheer intense atmosphere and landscape of Troy with the noir feel of Sin City and the pride of movies like Die Hard. After watching 300, you’d bet thousands of men all over the world are going to start training to turn their dreaded beer-bellies into awesome Spartan six packs…for about a week. This is truly the movie to step up to the throne and carry on the dynasty of the ‘Man-Movie’, well into the next decade.
